The U.S. Congressional representatives offer some unique services - check this out!
White House Tour
Did you know that the White House doesn't give public tours anymore? If you're planning to visit Washington DC, write your Congressperson about 5-6 months in advance to make a reservation (and get a background check).
Own a Flag Flown Over the U.S. Capitol
You can request for a flag to be flown over the U.S. Capitol if you would like to honor someone or have a flag flown for a special occasion. I had this done once on the day a friend became a U.S. citizen, and it's a treasured momento for him.
Nomination into Military Academy
For motivated young potential leaders, your Congressperson accepts applications from high school students for nominations into one of our four military academies: U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY; U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.
Assistance with a Federal Agency
Having trouble getting an answer or decision from a particular federal agency? If you have made every effort on your own and still can't resolve the issue, write your Congressperson for assistance - that's what they 're there for! I had to do this once myself, and my situation was only resolved because I had kept every piece of correspondence and a log of every phone call with who I spoke to and what they said.
Federal Laws
Would you like to see a new law or make a change to a current one? Congress creates the laws that the federal agencies enforce, so send your suggestions to your Congressperson.
