For those of us in northwest, we will have a unique opportunity to see the games right in our own backyard, so to speak.
The 2010 Winter Olympics are being held from Feb 12 - 28, 2010 in Vancouver, Canada.
Tickets for the games will go on sale in October 2008. Worried about price? They are announcing more than 100,000 tickets will be just $25. I guess that's great news for curling fans! :) Also, half the tickets will be under $100. You can sign up for email notices about tickets on the website.
Want to get involved? There are quite a few (paid) job vacancies on their site but one that caught my eye is a pre-game volunteer position where you can live anywhere because it's an internet-based position. Of course, RCMP will do background checks. This particular vacancy closes Fabruary 24, 2008.
If you would like a memento, the marketing has already begun. Outerwear, jewelry, accessories and of course pins. If you are a pin collector get them while their available - I kind of like the Country Flags and Crossed Sticks. There is also an assortment of 2008 pins for Bejing.
Despite the commercialism, the threats, the drugs, and the politics that we see as a part of modern sports - I still support the spirit and goodwill that the Olympic Games represent throughout the world.
