I have friends that talk about the Alaska Boardroom all the time, but for some reason it didn't spark enough interest to investigate.
One of these friends invited me as her guest to the Board Room as we went up to Alaska last week. In truth I was thinking, "yeah whatever, waiting at the gate vs. waiting in the Board Room is still waiting." Wrong!
The first thing I noticed, is that it was quiet! I have always loved the sound of the airport, but if you get caught up in hours of delay, it can be fatiguing.
There was a flight departure sign, but the concierge was monitoring everyone's flight. So if you want to sleep, they will even wake you up in time to get to your gate.
Free beverages and snacks such as soup or cheese and crackers are offered. It's more of a convenience rather than cost savings.
Private (and clean) bathrooms, with lotions and other amenities.
A wide variety of seating with desks, tables, and plush chairs are arranged in a pleasant environment with a fireplace and great views of the planes. Unlike at the gates, there are lots of plugs and internet access. Also, I loved the fact that they had a private conference room for those who need to keep business rolling.
Overall, the Board Room made my travel experience easier and more pleasant.
This same friend dropped me off last night at the airport, and when I checked in, the attendant advised that there was a new update and my flight would be significantly delayed.
I'm sure she was wondering why I smiled when she said that, but it was all the excuse I needed to get through security then walk straight to concierge desk to sign up for my own membership to the Alaska Airlines Board Room.
